CoffeeScript →
CoffeeScript is javascript, but better. It allows you to program object-oriented in javascript. Compiling to standard javascript means that there’s no overhead what so ever! You may have to get used to it in the beginning, but it’ll only take a day at max.
Oh, and it works perfectly fine in combination with jQuery :)

't Kinderpalet →
A new website I made for ‘t Kinderpalet: an activity for kids where they learn to experiment with painting, drawing & lots more.
I’ve used the jQuery lightbox plugin - which I modified to match the rest of the website - and jQuery Masonry. The rest of the javascript is custom written!
For those interested: the old website is located here: elfri.info/kinderpalet (it won’t...

Blog updated
I’ve updated my blog a little, in terms of usability (and to encourage visitors to dive into the blog as a whole, not just scratch the surface).
I’ve added a list of recent posts, which are always visible. For those interested: I’ve used the tumblr read api to load the JSON data of my tumblr to achieve this. Furthermore I’ve done some minor changes to the navigation....

I want this! Anyone knows if there a free font similar to this one? If there isn’t I’ll be forced to buy this!
Edit: thanks Choppie! Didn’t know fonts were on torrents too. Not that I will download them illegally off course ;-) As for fontsquirrel.com, I’ve been using that one too. I’d definitely recommend it to everyone: most fonts on there are free, even for CSS3...

$.wrap();
This snippet just saved my day. I’m trying to build a website which my mom can update (without CMS, just because). I need her to be able to just insert images, after which the site should update the markup automaticly.
Wrap does exactly what you would expect from it: wrap an element you target with an other tag. $(“#yourel”).wrap(“<div />”); will result in...

The User Interfacer
A small project for school. It’s a web application that shows you which user interface is suitable for a task. You can set a predefined task or play with the parameters yourself. (Link after the jump)
The results are based on an algorithm I put together. I’ve rated all the interfaces between a 1 and a 5 on all of the parameters. Some parameters act as a minimum, some as a maximum...

Layering: A web design essential!
There are multiple essential skills that you have to master to create a great web app. In this post I’m going to tell you about one of them: layering/positioning in HTML. Some (or most) of you may already know about them, for the other: This is a must read for you!

Slight change of direction
So I’m taking a slight course change with my blog. To develop skills I will be needing in the future, my focus is shifting to a more hybrid form of design. I’ll be programming and designing products that are highly interactive, invite user to participate and - in some cases - add and create their own content. Find links between media and create links where people think links are...

The CoExplorer
I’m working on this web application for travelers and backpackers and I just finished the design of the desktop website. The app will allow people to share the hot-spots in a city, so other visitors know which places to visit. Pré-beta prototype is planned for next week, so stay tuned!

Arduino
I’m currently in the process of learning Arduino. My first project will be some kind of reactive LED screen, hidden away below a piece of grass. I’ve split the design and production into 4 different steps:
Create an easily controlable LED screen
Add reactivity to the LED screen using pressure sensors
Finalize the design of the screen and (generative) animations
Hide all the...

LSD and Art
Reblogged from abovoadfinem
These drawings were done as part of a CIA experiment aimed at determining the effects of LSD on the human body. The drawings are incredibly fascinating, particularly due to the progression of style that occurs throughout the experiment. They administered 100ul of LSD to the artist and gave the artist free access to an activity box full of crayons. His subject was...

We Beat The Mountain Day 2011
This video was made for the WBTM day 2011, it was showed on a big screen during the whole event! There were DJ’s playing all day, that’s whay it doesn’t have any audio: nobody would hear it anyway.
I’ll post my process shots soon! In the mean time, here are some pictures of the festival.

jQuery Masonry →
This jQuery plugin just saved my day! It allows you to make floating divs that fill up all vertical space that’s available, like this:
Though it doesn’t seem too difficult at first hand, when you try to code this in CSS you’ll find out there’s no method achieve this. With Masonry you can achieve this layout with 6 lines of basic jQuery!

Creating A Rollover Button With HTML/CSS Only
As you will probably know, Dreamweaver offers the functionality to add rollover buttons to your site in a few clicks. As easy as this method may be, there are a few reasons not to choose for this approach.
The build in rollover button in Dreamweaver relies on Javascript. Though 9 out of 10 users have their Javascript enabled, you shouldn’t use it if it isn’t even necessary. I found a...
